Part one

I consider this as the most fundamental and important aspect of our work. I refer to the soul as the expression of our consciousness that survives death or is eternal. The fundamental nature of the soul is pure love, joy and bliss. It is always ready to offer us this ultimate contact with the universal divine spirit or GOD. The soul can renew our body and mind and heal us at all levels. But we must develop the capacity to listen to the inner voice of the soul whose subtle prompting often go unheard.

The soul, when activated directs our thoughts and actions towards becoming more and more joyful, loving and compassionate for ourselves and others. But there are many competing pressures in the social and material world that may drown out the soul voice. As a result we drift farther and farther from our original nature, without realising the cost of that drifting. Often diseases and suffering act as wake up calls to remind us to return to the protection and love of our soul and the divine, versus the false and perhaps well meaning designs of people and environment that do not consider or nurture our soul nature.

Our essence or original nature carries the blueprint to actualise our destiny for this life time. But there are many contaminating experiences that lead to a lack of confidence, fear and guilt so that we do not express even close to the totality of who we are. We may settle for half a life because we have lost our way and do not know how to listen to the signal that would guide us back to our soul. And at a conscious level we don’t realise what is happening and simply accept an inferior position to what we could be creating for self and others.

Reclaiming our soul describes the journey home to our essence. If we only identify with our personalities, we carry the distortions of past traumas and react through emotions of fear and guilt to our current situations. In our unconscious mind are the standards of family and parents that continue to dictate and direct our lives, while the soul with its potential for divine wisdom remains unheard in the background. Desire to please or prevent chaos and upset the status quo may dominate instead of the true soul-protecting voice of truth and wisdom. Establishment of the soul as the prime source of our trust and guidance is the ultimate step toward health, joy and fulfilment.
